Its a family affair.
Van Dal shoes are part of the Florida Group Ltd. – a family company whose origins can be traced back to the early 1900’s. Founded by Mr Adelman Goodman – the grandfather of the current Chairman – the group originally made shoes in London, but in 1936 Adelman and his two sons decided to manufacture shoes in Norwich instead.
Norwich, a tradition of fine shoes.
When Adelman and his sons arrived in Norwich in 1936 it was already an important centre for shoe manufacture. At that time, there were twenty-six shoe factories employing 12,000 people in Norwich, with over 7 million shoes made each year! The Florida Group soon established themselves as a leading light in this thriving shoe industry. Sadlyin 1938 Adelman died, but his two sons continued to run the factory together, producing quality, unbranded ladies’ shoes until 1946.
The Van Dal quality is born
In 1946 the decision was taken to specialise in high quality, wider fitting shoes and the name ‘Van Dal’ was born. Many people assume the name must have a Dutch origin – but the truth is the evolution of the name is shrouded in mystery!

Always stylish, forever comfortable
Fashions have come and gone over the years and Van Dal has always remained stylish, whilst maintaining a level of comfort rarely achieved by other shoes. It’s fascinating to look back at the styles our talented designers have created over the years.
